Here in Florida there is no shortage of bee farmers and Citrus County has become a mecca for apiaries – this a fancy term for a bee yard! In 2017, close to 4,500 bee keepers registered with the Florida Department of Agriculture.

The Yulee Sugar Mill began operating in 1851 to process the sugar cane grown by Yulee in the rich lowlands along the Homosassa River. The machinery was brought in by ship from New York and included a state of the art steam engine which drove the grinding machinery.

Officials estimate the project — which could honor the memory of Snooty, the iconic manatee that died at the South Florida Museum over the weekend — could cost about $3 million.

Guests can now go behind the scenes and experience SeaWorld’s Manatee Rescue Facility in actual operation! The guests will learn more about how vulnerable we manatees really are in the wild. Visitors to the facility can see digital medical charts, interactive displays, underwater cameras for viewing, and rescue videos right from SeaWorld’s Animal Rescue Team.
