Soon the air turns crisp and that autumn breeze will blow. As the temperatures drop and the kids go back to school, many will start planning for their winter get-aways! There isn't a more special place on earth to visit in the winter, than the Manatee Capital of the world!!
A great video featuring mom & calf in Crystal River, Florida
As air temperatures dipped below 30 degrees Fahrenheit at dawn on Monday, Fox 13 reported the waters where the manatees had gathered was a comfortable 73 degrees.
Thank you, John - for all your years of loyalty, service and providing an inspiration to thousands of animal lovers!! If Johnny B sounds like the Captain for you, it is always possible to request him when making your dreams of swimming with manatees come true!
Our beloved manatees! Our low lying waterfront neighborhoods! Last year Hermine showed the horrible damage from a Cat 2 storm surge……how would it be during a Cat 4?? As many of us relocated and left the town we love, we wondered what we would return to.
Manatees' tails (flukes) are specially adapted to maintain their body temperature.

Citrus County is one of those lucky spots! Scallops live for about a year, and die shortly after they spawn, so recreational scallop harvesting does not interfere with scallop populations as the season doesn’t start until after spawning has occurred, so don’t feel too bad while you suck down these tasty little morsels.
From Disney World to Universal, Florida is known for its abundance of theme park attractions. Adding up the cost of entrance fees, food and accommodation, however, can add up pretty quickly when you’re planning a family getaway to the Sunshine State. Luckily for those on a budget, Florida is also home to plenty of low-cost attractions where you can escape the tourist crowds and save your hard-earned money.
We recommend you try to fit as many of these into your 2017 to-do list as possible.
With the arrival of colder weather, manatee refuges and tour centers are preparing for the upcoming manatee season, which will see the mammals concentrate in warmer waters around the state and will last from Nov. 15 to March 31, 2017.
Homosassa is derived from a Seminole Indian name meaning either "river of fishes" or "pepper ridge".
Crystal River is a city in Citrus County, Florida, United States. The city was incorporated in 1903 and is the self professed "Home of the Manatee". Crystal River Preserve State Park is located nearby, and Crystal River Archaeological State Park is located in the city's northwest side.
Recently the RV staff was involved in the biggest manatee rescue in the history of Citrus County. This video honors their actions and tells the story of our manatee!
Recreational bay scallop season begins on June 25th, 2016! Thousands of residents and visitors will flock to the coastal areas of Florida between the Pasco-Hernando County line and Mexico Beach Canal to seek out their limit of scallops. Recreational boating in the Nature Coast reaches peak levels during scallop season, so expect congestion at boat ramps.
Scallops need the right mix of saltwater and freshwater to survive. If rains are heavy, too much freshwater can flood the bay and wipe out a crop. If the water is too salty, they won't survive, either.
Have you ever gone scalloping? Personally, I had not, until a recent trip to Gulf County, Fla. I wasn’t even sure what the act of “scalloping” was. Yes, getting scallops, surely, but how? And what did that entail? It turns out, it’s both fairly simple, and not as easy as you would expect.
