Manatees and Their Six Senses

Most of the life of a manatee is spent in very murky water and they are also active throughout the night in the dark. For this reason, manatees do not need to have perfect vision and are reported to be practically near sighted, however they have receptors for both blue and green wave lengths allowing them to see in color and can therefore differentiate between random objects and luscious green plants to eat.

Snooty the Manatee Dies Just 2 Days after his 69th Birthday

Snooty the manatee was found dead on Sunday July 23rd from a heartbreaking accident at South Florida Museum’s Parker Aquarium just two days after his 69thbirthday.

Snooty, the Oldest Manatee in the World, Is Turning 68

Snooty was born in 1948, making him the oldest manatee living in captivity and probably in the entire world. He weighs 1,100 pounds and is the official mascot of Manatee County. He also has a live webcam where you can watch him float around in his tank and do whatever else it is manatees do all day.
