Best Tent Camping Spots:

The Chassahowitzka River Campground

8600 W Miss Maggie Drive, Chassahowitzka FL 34448
(352) 382-2200

THE CHASSAHOWITZKA RIVER CAMPGROUND.jpg

At 'The Chazz' you will find 53 full hookup RV sites, 28 primitive tent sites, boat ramps and parking, a general store, and boat rentals. All this lies next to and on the Chassahowitzka River ("Hanging Pumpkin Place" in Seminole language), a gateway to spectacular scenery, wildlife, and some of the best paddling in Florida! If you've never heard of it before, come and check this awesome spot out!

When first arriving, the way winds through a long “tree tunnel” to the end of the paved road. There you will find a double boat ramp on a spring-fed lagoon. To the right is the Camp Store where guests may check in for camping, buy curios, local art, snacks, and supplies, pay for parking, and get loads of good area info about the Chassahowitzka River. You may also rent a kayak, canoe, or johnboat at the old bait house on the lagoon. Once checked in, you may head back down the tree tunnel to RV sites, and tent camping.

Among the amenities in the RV park area is a newer bathhouse with heat/AC, a general-purpose building we call the “leisure pavilion”, screened room with a Coke machine and water fountains, and coin-operated laundry facilities. Both the RV camping and primitive camping areas are partially shaded with mature oaks, cedars, pines, and palms. The individual RV sites feature fire rings, picnic tables, 30 or 50-amp electrical service, sewer connections, and spigots for potable water. There is a wifi signal broadcast throughout the RV Park. Of the 53 RV sites, 8 are the pull-through type. There is a dump station near the entrance to the RV park.

The tent or primitive camping area is separate from the RV Park, further to the west. It also features fire rings and picnic tables at each campsite. As well, there are 6 communal water spigots and 4 communal trashcans with 1 recycling bin. It is very peaceful. If you’re just coming to recreate, you can put your boat or kayak in and head out to one of the many springs and creeks, which feed the Chassahowitzka River. Maybe you’re headed out to the fantastic fishing grounds in the Gulf of Mexico. Wildlife abounds in the surrounding forests and whether you want to sit and watch the Manatees, Dolphins, Birds, Otters, etc., or go confront the animals in their own environments, there’s something for everyone! One of the most popular choices is to rent a kayak and launch at the dedicated kayak ramp and head out. So what are you waiting for? Get out and come to Chaz!

LAKE ROUSSEAU RV RESORT

10811 N. Coveview Terrace
Crystal River, FL 34428
Phone: 352-795-6336

lake-rousseau-rv-fishing.jpg

Your hosts at Lake Rousseau RV Resort want to invite you to a feast for your eyes and a dose of calm for your spirit under our vast canopy of ancient live oak trees here at the water's edge.  Come drown worms and catch trophy-sized bass, crappie, and bluegill, or plan a visit that includes kicking back on the porch and reading a good book.   From breathtaking sunrises at the cove to gorgeous sunsets over the lake, your days can be as active or as lazy as you like.

We are a year-round destination resort on the Nature Coast of Florida, where you will experience a corner of the world filled with great scenery, heron, egrets, and other abundant wildlife; there’s a designated birding trail near the Inglis Dam, just two miles from our Park.  Bring your camera and capture some of the greatest photo-ops imaginable.  We are located in a secluded, unspoiled area only 10 miles northeast of Crystal River and 10 miles southwest of Dunnellon.  In our area, you will find modern stores, quaint shops, and friendly people. For Golf Lovers we have several affordable golf courses in the area. We also have Boat Tours, Airboat Rides, Fishing Charters, Guide Service, Scalloping Trips, and Manatee Tours.

If boating and fishing are what you like, our 3,500-acre dam-controlled lake is one of the finest in the state for trophy-sized bass and great crappie, and bluegill.  Lake Rousseau is fed by the Withlacoochee River and the natural springs of the Rainbow River, which flow into the Withlacoochee at Dunnellon. These two rivers provide Lake Rousseau with an abundant supply of water.  While fully navigable, Lake Rousseau is not traveled at high speeds due to the presence of stumps, so your fishing won't be disturbed by jet skis or waked by others passing by at a break-neck pace. We have our own boat launch. Just two miles from our park, there's a public brackish water launch below the dam, where you can put in and reach the   Gulf of Mexico, as well as a second freshwater launch into the lake.  So, freshwater or salt water, we have access to both.

If socializing is more your style, you'll love our friendly residents and regulars and may want to spend your time playing bingo or cards, or just visiting with your new neighbors. Many of our guests have been coming here for several years and will welcome you to join the fun here on beautiful Lake  Rousseau!

We have a bait and tackle shop and a heated swimming pool on site. Our sparkling bathhouses, laundry, and lovely clubhouse will provide you with all the amenities of a home. Our park is within easy driving distance of many of Central Florida's main attractions as well as local ones, including viewing West Indian manatees in their natural habit. We’re within two hours drive of Orlando or Tampa, and are about thirty minutes from Ocala and just over an hour from Gainesville. Whether it's for a day, a week, or the season, you'll be glad you came!
