Crystal-Clear Video Captures What It's Like To Swim With Manatees In Florida

If there is one thing every Floridian should add to his or her bucket list, it should be to visit the beautiful Three Sisters Springs in Crystal River, Florida. I have lived in the Sunshine State for more than 30 years but only recently made my way to this incredible place.

The springs water is a consistent 72 degrees Fahrenheit year-round. During the winter months, the manatees aggregate in the springs, seeking out the warm water refuge they provide. At times, there may be hundreds of manatees huddling up together for warmth.

I think the best way to experience this place is to rent a kayak from one of the local shops and explore the area on your own. Kayaks are not allowed in the spring itself but there is a designated spot for you to tie off so you can swim into the spring. As you peacefully float along the surface you will find yourself mesmerized by the glistening light radiating across the sandy bottom. Then, when you think it can’t get any better, one of the friendly manatees will approach you to interact and play. It is such a wonderful experience. The whole time I kept thinking to myself: Why didn’t I come here sooner?
